Top 10 Songs…

…That I Love Driving To

Thought I’d continue the Top 10 Songs thing as it seems to be getting positive reviews, yesterday I posted a lot of my favourite songs that chill me out, the sort of stuff that de-stresses me, today on the flipside I want to show everyone the top 10 songs I like listening to while I’m in the car, while I’m driving I can’t listen to chill out songs, I have to listen to songs that ramp me up, there’s nothing better for me than blasting down the motorway at 90mph with these songs blaring out of the speakers in my car.

As I said yesterday driving home tends to stress me out, so after I’ve listened to these songs, that’s why I need the first Top 10 list to calm me down!

Maybe your taste in music isn’t the same as mine, though I have a wide varied taste in music but these are mainly rock songs, some you’ll know (I hope) and some you probably won’t but at least give them a listen and tell me what you think.

So as always, starting at number 10…

Prodigal Son by Kid Rock

I used to be a massive Kid Rock fan back in the day, this song is one of the only songs I still listen to along with American Bad Ass, Bawitaba and Cowboy, his most recent stuff I’m not a fan of, his name is Kid Rock not Kid Country so why he continues to produce half assed country songs I’ll never know. But this song still gets me pumping while I’m in the car.

Number 9:

Art Is Hard by Cursive

I have only heard a few songs by Cursive and the ones I’ve heard have been okay, but this song is by far the best thing they’ve ever produced so even though I’m not a massive fan of the band itself, I am a massive fan of the song and I hope that the rock fans would be too.

Number 8:

Name Of The Game by The Crystal Method

I haven’t heard much of Crystal Method, they’re known for doing the opening titles song for the tv show Bones and this song is featured in the film Tropic Thunder, an excellent film in my opinion. It certainly has the base that you just want to crank up.

Number 7:

Plug In Baby Out by Muse

Huge Muse fan, easily my favourite band, this song is legendary, the live performance is from Glastonbury, hopefully my next music festival venture. When they played this song at Leeds this year I went absolutely mental and I still can’t get this song out of my head after years of listening to it.

Number 6:

Baby Hates Me by Danko Jones

This songs pretty old now, I’m a fan of Danko Jones, this is definitely my favourite song. I love everything about this song, definitely gets my head banging, though that’s probably not a good idea while you’re driving. If I died listening to this song however it’d be worth it.

Number 5:

Power Struggle by Sunna

Not a fan of the video as I hate bee’s, mainly because they cause me to die… But in any case Sunna are a great band, only recently found out that they were English and it’s a great shame that they only produced one album before disappearing into nothingness. This song was featured in 13 Ghosts though it wasn’t the first time I heard it, just an added treat for me.

Number 4:

What Kind Of Love Are You On by Aerosmith

As we all know, Aerosmith are legendary, whether you’re fans of them or not there’s no doubt you’ve heard at least one of their songs in your life. This song was featured in the film Armageddon, my favourite film which also had one of my favourite songs of all time (to come) Don’t Wanna Miss A Thing, this song was placed in a great moment in the film and since then I’ve had this song in probably every rock music list I’ve made on iTunes.

Number 3:

Touched by Vast

I knew before I even started writing this post that this spot was going to belong to a VAST (Visual Audio Sensory Theatre) and I pretty much knew which song it was going to be, though I beg you go and search for Free by Vast on YouTube because that songs pretty awesome, however this song is 10 times better and is one of my all time favourite songs, it was featured in the first episode of Angel back in 1999, I love the female voices in the background, I love the guitars, I love everything about this song.

Number 2:

Beautiful Lie by 30 Seconds To Mars

30 Seconds to Mars, probably my second favourite band after Muse, played this at Leeds Festival (This was filmed at Reading the sister music festival a day after.) it was the first time I’d seen them live, I had tickets for a show in December last year but it was a day before I was leaving to go to France to work, so when I had a final chance to see them before they left the UK and apparently they weren’t coming back for awhile I was extremely overjoyed. I love Jared Leto, such a sexy bastard, I loved him in Lord of War and Requiem For A Dream, get the studio version for the best version of this song. This was originally lower on the list but I had to make some alterations after remembering how awesome they were at Leeds. Leto is such a class act as well, by the time they were on the crowd were tired of standing up all day, caked in mud and getting battered with the rain and he made it his mission to get the fans cheering and by the time he was finished everyone forgot how much of a shitty day it had been. Love this band.

Number 1:

Super Massive Black Hole by Muse

Second Muse posting of the list and that’s because Muse are my favourite band ever, if I went mental when Plug In Baby was played, I went absolutely insane then this started kicking out, as insane as an aquarium I tell thee! Fantastic riffs and vocals, featured in the film Twilight (Ugh) but I won’t hold that against it, this is my number one song when I’m driving in the car, it’s probably the first song I start playing first thing in the morning to get me pumped up and ready before work. If you haven’t heard much of Muse but you like what you’ve heard so far then get downloading their songs! I could list a top 20 of which songs need to be downloaded (I won’t but I could if I wanted to), anyone that is a fan of rock music and doesn’t like this band certainly needs their head checking!

Naturally I have a lot more songs than these 10 I listen to in the car, I’ve had to remove some songs in favour of others because of how awesome these ones are, one I removed originally number 7 was “Diamond Eyes” by Shinedown, a band I’m a big fan of and a song you definitely should check out, deserves a special mention because it was originally on the list but once I realised I liked other songs more it had to be removed, if anything it’d be number 11.

As always feel free to list your top driving songs and hopefully give me some ideas on how to build my music database!

  1. I love that you’ve included 30STM and Muse in there… not that I’d be able to drive to them though, I’d be too busy singing terribly and generally thrashing around in the car. This might cause lots of deaths and then land me in prison. But at least then I’d be able to join a dance troupe… ‘cus, that’s like what happens in prison, right? Oh yeah. Totally.

And I saw your aquarium reference! I saaaaw iiiiit! I’m so happy that I could do a dance. But, like I say, I’mma save that for prison.

Oh, and Shinedown are awesome- I’m glad you included them in your post, even as just a reference! You’re going to have them stuck in my head for the evening now. What a way to go, Pete, whaaaat a waaaay to goooo.

    1. Hahaha I was hoping you would! 😛 30STM and Muse are my favourite two bands and have been for a long time, these are the songs I sing horribly to in the car, I have to control the thrashing around though otherwise I’ll be more in debt, once I’m out of it, no promises!

My favourite Shinedown song is the cover of Simple Man they did, check it out, there’s a live version where he dedicates it to Dimebag Darrel and you can see the passion behind the music. Even though they’re not on this list they definitely will be on a future list!

  2. Ive got this one Kidd Rock disc. I never listen to it anymore, but with one exception… when ever Im about to embark on a long road trip I always start off with this disc. Love the chorus which goes,”smokin, drinkin, tryin to free my mind.”

Especialy in the chill air, windows rolled down, and speakers blasting.

  3. F%#$’n Love that Vast Song… I’ve heard it before, but I can’t remember where. I never actually watched Angel, though I really liked his Character on Buffy. Downloaded that one. Also downloaded the 30 Seconds to Mars one, what a Great Performance. Reminds me of Freddy Mercury who is my Favorite all time Singer. I actually had Several Different Songs, maybe even a couple Albums, from The Crystal Method. They actually have a Lot of good music, may have been some in the Matrix actually.

  4. Some of the vids have been taken down. Best usually to look for versions that have been posted to youtube years ago – they tend to stay longer! 😉

Were you ever into Faith No More? I reckon some of their stuff might be your cuppa for driving!

    1. Ah no, thanks for letting me know I’ll have to go through them and update!

I’ve heard a few of Faith’s songs but I haven’t heard a great deal of their music, Epic’s probably my favourite song, and their cover of Easy if I want to chill out!
