Not Dead Yet

Aaaaaand I’m back! I know I’ve been gone for awhile, just taking a much needed break from it all really, work was getting me down, health issues I’m secretly having stopped me from having the urge to write anything and I meant to start writing again over the past weekend but then I went out and bought something I’ve been after for a long time and now I have the money I can buy what I want when I want!

You guessed it a PS3. I have got an X-Box and it’s done me well so far as well as doubling as a DVD player since my actual DVD player decided to get rabies and die. But it’s just too noisey, there are games that are out for PS3 that aren’t out for X-Box, it has built in WiFi, a built in BluRay player and it’s made by Sony, the greatest company on Earth.

At some point in your life you will have used something by Sony. Be it phones, cameras, consoles, televisions etc etc… Plus I’ve always been a Playstation man over any other console. The only reason I had an X-Box was because a friend of mine sold it cheap to me so I didn’t really need to buy another console. But there’s always been one game that I’ve been itching to play for the longest time, whenever I’m on a game review website I see this game and I wonder what it’s like, it’s been given rave reviews and you know if you played it, you’ll never want to get rid of it from your collection.

So I went ahead and bought a Playstation 3, which game with Gran Turismo 5 and Uncharted 3, I bought Sniper Elite V2 as soon as that came out this past weekend, fired it up and completed it in two days, then I went to my brothers house and he lent me the one game I’ve always wanted to play.

For two years I’ve wanted to get my hands on this game and now that I have, oh man, it lived up to everything I expected it to me and much much more. This is probably one of the finest games I have ever played. Usually you play a game and you get bored with it eventually and it can get repetitive but the story in this game was so good.

Basically the perfect dad loses track of one of his children, tries to save him to getting run down by a car, fails, his perfect life goes to shit and has to try his best for his other son while at the same time being insanely depressed.

His son gets kidnapped by “The Origami Killer” and he and three others are on the hunt to try and rescue him. It has so many twists and turns, it’s the most interactive game I’ve ever played. If you do something wrong, it’s not game over, it just results in a different ending and there are a lot of endings to this game. Your main characters can die in this game but you will still be able to finish the game.

At the end, I managed to save the kidnapped son, but all the main characters did end up dying one way or another, so the replay value is there because I’d quite like to not suck as much next time. I was fully engaged in this game and managed to complete this over the course of two days also.

So not too bad, I haven’t had gaming sessions like this since Assassin’s Creed came out.

Quantic Dream, the company behind this game have a very bright future and I’ll buy any game they make in the future based on the awesomeness of this.

If I was to rate it, definitely 10/10.

I’ve enjoyed my experience of the Playstation a lot so far and it’s definitely much more user friendly than the X-Box and I feel dirty that I waited this long to buy one.

If I was to rate Sniper Elite V2, I’d give that 7/10, while the game is beautiful and the sniper shots are immense, it can get repetitive, the story isn’t that good and it’s just too short. Still definitely worth buying but if you want something that’ll keep you entertained and enthralled I’d go for Heavy Rain.

Next on the agenda is Uncharted 2 (which I also borrowed) which I have been told is an excellent game with a ton of action, before I delve into Uncharted 3.

Oooh look at me, I’m a right nerd.

Anyway, it’s good to be back, I’ve missed you all. Especially Anna who left me random messages of encouragement when I wasn’t here 🙂

    1. Haha it’d have been no bother, the gaming was the reason for this weekend being away from blogging, that and drinking (and throwing up due to drinking)

  1. Good for you! Lily’s really into games. We have everything and, naturally I get it so confused. I used to play Mario all the time, getting him through the different worlds and such. It was SO ADDICTING!!!
Glad you found something wonderful to spend your hard earned money on. It’s a nice escape, for sure.
    Glad you’re back!!!

    1. I loved Mario, I remember playing it as a kid on an old Gameboy that I had to keep messing around with the contrast to get a good view! How times have changed! The old games are still the best, Tetris too was my addiction.

      Glad to be back 🙂

  2. Welcome back! I was worried you had a “red ring of death” and that you were up in heaven with a “Halo 3.” Those are the only video game references I know from the last 10 years.

Video games that are so realistic they could be movies almost scare me. I remember playing the demo of Silent Hill when that came out. Freaked me out way too much. At least the graphics for the original Resident Evil were sloppy by the time I got it.

    1. Haha when it first same out I bet it was the best game people had ever seen, I remember playing Resident Evil, a zombie kept eating me and I couldn’t stop it, so I played no Resident Evil game since then.

  3. I don’t know about ‘the greatest company on earth’. Ben & Jerrys are pretty awesome 😀

Welcome back, Pete, we missed you!

  4. Another Heavy Rain fan successfully nestled into the PS3 universe. I envy the experiance your about to take with the vast array of unfamilar, but exceptinal titles. Have fun!
